Your involvement is crucial to the Region's future
Greater Cincinnati today is at an important crossroads. Our region is endowed with exceptional resources. Yet there is no clear and comprehensive picture for deploying our assets in a manner that will allow us to achieve continued social progress, economic prosperity and community building.
With this in mind, a group of passionate leaders from a variety of sectors of society in Greater Cincinnati have come together to organize an action agenda for the four primary counties of Southwest Ohio (Butler, Clermont, Hamilton and Warren). As this agenda emerges, it will be aligned with similar initiatives already well developed in Northern Kentucky (Vision 2015) and Southeast Indiana to form a comprehensive regional agenda for the Tri-State region.
For more information please visit the Agenda 360 web site.
The Urban League of Greater Cincinnati proudly announces the kick-off of the African American Business Development Program.
This five-month program focuses on leadership skill enhancement, encouragement of the use of proven business development techniques and support civic/community leadership development.
Program participants will gain an expansive outlook on community issues that affect their businesses while participating in thought-provoking leadership training activities. They are afforded a superior networking opportunity with business and community leaders from throughout the Greater Cincinnati area.
The mission of the African American Business Development Program is to identify, prepare, involve, empower and sustain African American Business Owners, who are committed and positioned to address community challenges in Greater Cincinnati.
The goal of AABDP is to create an environment where experienced owners are challenged to explore new leadership concepts and opportunities that will create sustainable companies that benefit the community through economic growth.
Through this environment, the program will attract and support the growth of firms capable of providing job and career opportunities for residents of the Greater Cincinnati community.
This month’s numbers show serious weakness in the
job market. The overall unemployment rate in
December jumped to 5% after remaining at 4.7% for
the previous three months. This is the biggest
monthly jump since 2001. The unemployment rate
for Blacks increased from 8.4% to 9%, and the
unemployment rate for Latinos also increased 0.6% to
6.3%. The overall participation rate remained
essentially level, at 66%, but that is 0.4% lower than a
year ago. The labor force participation rate remained
basically level for both whites (at 66.3%) and Blacks
(at 63.3%). Unemployment increased 0.3% for both
men and women (both now at 4.4%) and increased
0.2% for whites (also 4.4%). The unemployment rate
for teenagers (16-19) increased overall to 17.1 %; for
black teens it was 34.7%, and for white teens 14.4%.
For more detailed unemployment information please visit the Department of Labor web site.
