Dorothy P. Smoot’s background includes 34 years of diverse experience in social service program delivery for adults and youth as well as administrative experience in the areas of fund raising, program development, grant writing, contract monitoring, welfare-to-work transition program development and supervision.  Training and facilitation skills in the area of conflict resolution; crisis intervention training; chemical dependency counseling; brief strategic intervention; parenting skills; structural & strategic treatment modalities; and violence prevention and cultural awareness facilitation.

As Chief Program Officer of the Urban League of Greater Cincinnati, Mrs. Smoot’s responsibilities include the oversight of all programs for both adults and youth in the areas of employment, work readiness and education.  Programs:  AFTERSCHOOL  LEAGUE –  includes fee based tutoring programs to assist youth with remediation of math and reading –  21st Century community learning center facilitation for youth to provide enrichment activities;  YOUTH WORKS – workforce readiness program for youth ages 14-24;  Solid Opportunities for Advancement and Retention (SOAR), Accelerated Call Center Education (ACE), and Construction Connections – all preparing adults for entry and re-entry into the competitive workforce in level positions in construction, advanced manufacturing, landscaping and call center customer service;  SICKLE CELL AWARENESS – promoting the education and prevention of sickle cell disease;  and African American Leadership Development Program (AALDP), a leadership program aimed at young African-American professionals to help them develop a deeper community awareness.    Additional responsibilities include representation of the Urban League on committees and boards as they pertain to all aspects of service.

Mrs. Smoot has served as Executive Director of the Community Police Partnering Center for the past two years.   She serves on the Police Chief’s Advisory Board, the City Manager’s Advisory Board and is the Team Leader for the Community Engagement Team of the Cincinnati Initiative to Reduce Violence.

Mrs.  Smoot is the wife of Eric Smoot and the proud grandmother of five.
