ULGSO Desktop Support Technician

This position reports to the CFO of the Urban League of Greater Southwestern Ohio, and or her designated staff member in her absence.

This position assists staff with technical support of desktop computers, applications, and related technology as needed. Support includes specification, installation, and testing of computer systems and peripherals within established standards and guidelines. Activities require interaction with application software and operating systems to diagnose and resolve unique, non-recurring problems. This position provides one-on-one consultancy to end users (UL Staff). This position’s responsibilities require independent analyses, communication and problem solving.

Work is performed with little supervision and requires initiative and judgment.

Duties of the position

  • Manage all Third party IT contractors and the associated budgets. This includes the IT needs for all 4 locations (Greater Cincinnati UL, Miami Valley UL, Union Institute, and the Sickle Cell building in Cincinnati, Ohio).
  • Works with Third party provider contacts to resolve technical problems with UL Staff desktop computing equipment, software, and networking via phone call or in person one on one consultation.
  • Works with Third party provider to ensure all UL Infrastructures (Network & Wireless) are properly secured and properly functioning.
  • Works with Third party provider Help Desk and Network Operations staff as appropriate to determine and resolve problems received from UL Staff via the helpdesk portal ticketing system.
  • Interact with numerous computer platforms in a multi-layered client server environment.
  • Ensure desktop computers interconnect seamlessly with diverse systems including associated validation systems, file servers, email servers, computer conferencing systems, application servers, and administrative systems.
  • Trains and orients UL Staff on use of organization’s hardware and software.
    1. Knowledge of database management desired
  • Recommends and /or performs upgrades on systems to ensure longevity.
  • Assists in maintaining trouble records and, logging of IT Issues in the Third party provider ticketing system and maintain a running log of issues (and time) addressed by this position.
  • Design, develop, implement and coordinate system processes to ensure compliance with all IT policies and procedures.
  • Facilitator of the IT Committee to determine the maintenance and IT growth needs of the Organization.
  • Assist Third party provider with the security of data, network access and backup systems.
  • Manage the annual IT budget.
  • Audit IT systems and evaluate their outcomes.
  • Administrator of the Surveillance and Alarm system for the Main UL Building and Sickle Cell building in Cincinnati, OH.
  • Administrator of the UL Phone System for the Miami Valley UL in Dayton OH, Main UL Building, and Sickle Cell Building in Cincinnati OH.
  • Create and manage network accounts in Active Directory (Microsoft Management Console).

Skills Required

  1. Computer Skills: Ability to utilize PC skills and software appropriate to non-profits. Utilize computer technology to benefit program operations and correctly interpret computer output.
  2. IT Skills: Ability to plan and recommend IT strategies to improve the overall health of the Urban League of Greater Southwestern Ohio’s Network.

Work Experience

  1. Minimum of five (5) years of Helpdesk experience
  2. Minimum of two (2) years of Network Administration experience desired
  3. Minimum of one (1) year of experience working within a non-profit organization helpful


  1. Associate’s Degree in Information Technology – Computer Network Systems
  2. Bachelor’s Degree in Computer and Electronics Technology or other related fields desirable.
