Branford Brown

Branford D. Brown is Executive Director of Miami Valley Urban League, Dayton. It is a subsidiary of the Urban League of Greater Southwestern Ohio.

A lawyer and Baptist minister, as well, Brown began working for Miami Valley Urban League in fall 2014 and has led the organization back to a position of importance and respect in Greater Dayton.

Brown has an undergraduate degree in sociology from Ohio State University and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Cincinnati. He started his legal career as a public defender and has worker in the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s office (1992-1994). He has worked for the Legal Aid Society in Dayton and as Managing Attorney for Legal Aid of Western Ohio before moving to Legal Aid in Western Kentucky. He then served as Executive Director of Legal Aid in Hartford, Conn.

He still works as a minister, serving as Senior Pastor of Second Chance Ministries in Mount Healthy.

Miami Valley Urban League was created in 2012 as a subsidiary of the new Urban League of Greater Southwestern Ohio, which also includes Greater Cincinnati Urban League. The former Dayton Urban League ceased operations in 2010 because of financial problems.

On his work with the Urban League in Dayton, Brown said, “I think that God offers us challenges. I see my outside-of-church work as an extension of ministry, but I have never worked a job that I didn’t love and wasn’t helping people.”
