CAS Homework Assistant

Job Summary

The general responsibilities of the homework assistant are to provide intensive and extensive tutorial services for the elementary and junior high school students. The homework assistant, in order to assist the student in his/her education endeavors, will utilize the resources of the Cincy After School and the Urban League. The homework assistant will provide feedback to CAS/UL staff regarding the progress the student is making.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identify specific learning objectives for students daily.
  • Assist students in completing homework assignments daily.
  • Monitor student progress in challenging areas.
  • Facilitate communication between the Urban League, Cincinnati Public Schools, parents and students.
  • Maintain a positive work environment by behaving and communicating in an appropriate manner with staff and students.

Job Requirements

  • Ability to evaluate and monitor tutoring programs.
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs., transport equipment, materials and supplies to schools.
  • Skilled in oral and written communications.
  • Skilled in interpersonal relations, professionalism, and integrity with the business and education community.
  • Ability to consistently adhere to deadlines, while maintaining high levels of quality.
  • Availability of own transportation to and from work location.

Qualifications

  • Acceptable 10-point FBI background check.

SES Tutor

Job Summary

Provide direct academic and enrichment services to youth in grades K-8th.  Develop lesson plans in mathematics and reading in an after school.  Responsible for coordination of the assigned Urban League education initiatives.  Ensures systems are in place and maintained to meet program objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the development of after school tutoring activities and lesson plans for all youth participants, and all other assigned activities and services, including responsibility for meeting stated objectives and performance outcomes, and that activities are consistent with the objectives, policies, standards and accepted practices of the Urban League of Greater Cincinnati.
  • Implement and maintain curriculum on a consistent basis.
  • Provide all information on program attendance, outcomes, and progress as requested.
  • Ensure that program contractual specifications and obligations for reporting and communicating progress are performed as required.
  • Provide monthly progress reports to manager, parent, teacher, and building principal.
  • Recommend new ideas as well as identify when program activities need to be phased out.
  • Perform other agency-related projects and duties as assigned.

Job Requirements 

  • Knowledge of education systems, social work or related field or equivalent degree.
  • Skilled and knowledgeable in mathematics and reading.
  • Knowledge of Business English including grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  • Skilled in oral and written communications.
  • Skilled in interpersonal relations, professionalism, and integrity with the business and education community.
  • Skilled in working with Microsoft Word and Excel software applications.
  • Ability to develop and implement curriculum and activities.
  • Ability to recruit and retain participants and volunteers.
  • Ability to consistently adhere to deadlines, while maintaining high levels of quality.
  • Availability of own transportation to and from work location.

Qualifications 

  • Must meet minimum federal/state standards for paraprofessionals: an earned secondary school diploma and have two years of college (48 semester hours or 72 quarter hours) or an Associate’s Degree or have passed a local (school personnel only) or state paraprofessional academic assessment
  • Acceptable 10-point FBI check
