Our Vision

We visualize strong African American families and individuals who are fully educated, employed, empowered, healthy with quality housing, and whose contributions are valued and recognized as benefiting the total community.

Our Mission

Our mission is to eliminate the barriers of racism and level the playing field for all African Americans and others at risk by promoting their economic self-sufficiency and entrepreneurship through effective leadership in the areas of comprehensive employment, youth and family development, and advocacy.

Our History

Founded in 1949 to build opportunities and level the playing field for African Americans and others, the Urban League of Greater Cincinnati is a private, 501(c)(3) corporation and a local affiliate of the National Urban League. The Urban League is a United Way supported agency and benefits from board representation from business, labor, education, service professions and media. In 2007, the Urban League will begin its third year of a 5-year strategic plan that concentrates on Youth, Jobs & Justice.

The Urban League is headquartered on a main public transportation line along the Reading Road corridor in Avondale, and is both accessible and convenient to area residents and commuters. Additionally, the Urban League offers a modern facility and classrooms featuring a recently installed state-of-the-art computer lab. Free parking is available to those with personal transportation.

For nearly 60 years, the Urban League has established a distinguished track record of effectively addressing the key challenges facing African Americans in Greater Cincinnati by providing a dynamic array of programs and services that help individuals and families become economically self-sufficient.
